Get to know Simeï, the Founder and Director of S Verster Attorneys

I recall going for an interview a couple of years ago where I was asked by the managing director if I will ever start my own firm. I giggled and vehemently said NO. She asked me why. My answer was simple, I’m scared. She grinned; the interview went on.

Never say never.

Now I am the Founder of S Verster Attorneys. This ride has been wild, and sometimes very difficult, but mostly exciting. Sometimes that which you resist is exactly the thing that will set you free. Over the years, many people have encouraged me to start my own firm. But if I am being honest, the comfort and safety that comes from knowing that the buck does not stop with you was great. But sometimes your comfort zone will tap your rizz! Brené Brown says that courage does not mean you are not afraid, but that you do the thing scared. So, I am doing the thing scared – and I hope you’ll be along for the ride.

I grew up in Welkom in the Free State. Yes, the home of the Griffins. I went to the picturesque Stellenbosch and obtained my LLB degree. Thereafter I went back home to do my articles at a firm that is family. I was mentored by honest, good and brilliant lawyers who encouraged me to find my own path. And who to this day stand on the sidelines cheering me on. My career was satisfactory, but it felt like there was always something missing. I have always wanted to obtain my Master’s in Law (LLM) – and one evening in a complete leap of faith, I applied. I was accepted and my new adventure started. I decided to pursue completing my Master’s in Trust Law and Estate Planning and quickly realised that I was starting to develop this dream of starting up a specialised legal services firm. Through the help of a generous colleague, my family and my mentors, I managed to open S Verster Attorneys sooner than I could cop out.

I am a chirpy, love to chat girl, who enjoys classical music, ballet, thrifting and picnicking. I have often been told I don’t look like a lawyer, and I don’t take offense. Maybe it’s because I tend to be mild tempered and empathic, or because I hate court heals – and this has proven to be a great asset in my field of expertise, despite the cliché Harvey Spector and Jessica Pearson have set. I have a passion for providing individualised legal expertise in specialised areas of the law like Trusts, Estate Planning, Conveyancing and Notarial services, while maintaining values of compassion, kindness and excellence.

I hope you send me an email, a dm or even better, give me a call.
